ST NICHOLAS CATHEDRAL

This orthodox cathedral, dominating Braşov with its impressive dimensions, is an important spiritual and cultural centre now, as it was in medieval times.

First built out of wood in 1392 and then out of stone in the 16th century by the Wallachian prince Neagoie Basarab, the church was redecorated a few centuries later in a beautiful Byzantine style. The interior stands out through frescos depicting Romania’s last royal family and a wonderful collection of ancient icons.
